Abstract
This article presents some interesting considerations - which have clear pedagogical implications - on the effects of the overload of sensory inputs generated by modern communication media. By focusing on the fundamental processes that drive both thought and action – such as motility and cognition, selective attention and memory – the author stresses how the overload of sensory inputs could expose young people to the risk of passive habituation and impaired concentration. For this reason, there is an increasingly urgent need for new educational and teaching strategies that take into account both the power and the vulnerability of the minds of young pupils.
