Abstract
Despite the historical and unyielding distance between the concept of person proposed by the existentialist / spiritualist position of the Catholic pedagogy and the ethical / existential position of secular education, the author glimpsed a ford, consisting of some points of contact. The bridge is represented by the tension towards a new humanity advocated by Pope Bergoglio. The author’s interpretative adventure leads him to identify three macroideas in the pedagogical lesson of the Holy Father: (a) the idea of person as someone that grows on a natural and multidimensional terrain that favors freedom and individual choice; (b) the highly social nature of charity and (c) the principle of dialogue and love
