Abstract

Documentation is an excellent tool for educational improvement. In order to find out what it consists of and how it can contribute to professional development and the improvement of educational practice in Early Childhood Education, a systematic and narrative review has been carried out under the PRISMA protocol. We had analysed 69 research articles on educational documentation (n=69) from the period 2000-2021, extracted from three databases (Wos, Scopus and Dialnet) and with the support of the bibliographic manager Mendeley. The documentary analysis offers a vision of pedagogical documentation: what it is, why and what for, and how to document. Likewise, the challenges faced are also reflected, showing that the provision of adequate technical equipment, teacher training on how to document and use this equipment, and the establishment of times and spaces to discuss and interpret what is documented are essential to be able to make a good documentation and thus improve the quality of education.
